A highly accomplished Chartered Quantity Surveyor with over 40 years experience in the construction industry, specialising in the resolution of construction disputes by negotiation, adjudication and mediation; fully conversant in JCT, NEC, ICC (formerly ICE) and FIDIC contract forms, their related sub-contracts and most of the hybrid sub-contract forms produced by main contractors.

Starting out in the construction industry as an Articled Pupil quantity surveyor with John Laing Construction Limited, Colin held various appointments with contractors before forming his own consultancy and has worked as a consultant for the last 25 years both in the UK and the UAE.

Colin’s main area of work is now in the specialist contracting field, offering dispute resolution services, commercial and contractual advice and training. Colin works closely with the Confederation of Construction Specialists, where he is Deputy Chairman.

Subject matter of disputes resolved has typically included payment provisions; the value of work carried out (including valuation of variations, direct loss and expenses, claims for damages, and assessment of compensation events); extensions of time; interpretation of contract provisions; defective work; determination of contract and set off.

Colin provides various training programmes by way of seminars and workshops (both external and bespoke client specific) on subjects that include standard and non-standard forms of contract and sub-contracts; contractual and commercial awareness and specific topics in the field of dispute resolution and dispute avoidance.

Where time allows, Colin undertakes short term non-executive positions (often appointed by a Bank or major shareholder) in order to carry out a complete review of a company’s commercial position and provide a report on its status and the likelihood of recovering debts owed with a view to re-structuring or finding ways to sell the company on.

Colin is also a director of Stellar Retention Recovery Limited and Silver Adjudication Funding Limited.
